Godaddy Suspends Domain
02/13/07 10:18 AM Filed in: Technology
Fyodor
Vaskovich found out that Godaddy.com can simply
shutdown your domain. Simply Godaddy can say they
don't like you and shut down your site, says Larry
Seltzer of Eweek
The site in question is Fyodor's seclist.org a mailing list archive that of the most important security list.
The site was taken down because MySpace had found out that 34,0000 usernames and passwords were listed on the site. MySpace didn't contact Fyodor they went around and contacted Godaddy and got the site shutdown.
Here are some of Godaddy.com legal agreement.
Go Daddy reserves the right to terminate Services if Your usage of the Services results in, or is the subject of, legal action or threatened legal action, against Go Daddy or any of its affiliates or partners, without consideration for whether such legal action or threatened legal action is eventually determined to be with or without merit.
Except as set forth below, Go Daddy may also cancel Your use of the Services, after thirty (30) days, if You are using the Services, as determined by Go Daddy in its sole discretion, in association with spam or morally objectionable activities. Morally objectionable activities will include, but not be limited to: activities designed to defame, embarrass, harm, abuse, threaten, slander or harass third parties; activities prohibited by the laws of the United States and/or foreign territories in which You conduct business; activities designed to encourage unlawful behavior by others, such as hate crimes, terrorism and child pornography; activities that are tortuous, vulgar, obscene, invasive of the privacy of a third party, racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable;
Godaddy apparently gave 1 hour notice.
From Eweek.
Wow, there seems to be more and more control on the net. France been able to get yahoo to close a web page. China's strong control over content.
Too bad we are loosing site of what the internet was made for in the first place.

Nothing against the SLF Board or Advisory Committee
02/10/07 10:51 AM Filed in: SL Community
Please note I
have nothing against the Sri Lanka Foundation Board
of Directors or the Advisory
Committee.
It has been brought to my attention that some of these members have never been assembled for one meeting. This is an official list supplied by the Sri Lanka Foundation as per the old website.
I requested to Dr. Walter Jayasinghe and Palitha Pelpola that I would like to speak to the Board of Directors.
I would like to send a letter to all of them but I only have some of the addresses.
I apologize to all the members for any unpleasantness the publishing of these names have brought to them and their families. I realize that some of you are not even aware of what has transpired.

HUSH, HUSH - Sri Lanka Foundation Board of Directors

Why is the matter of
the Sri Lanka Foundation Board of Directors such a
hush, hush topic. On February 5th I called the law
office of Paul Bloom (Lawyer of Sri Lanka Foundation
and Dr. Walter Jayasinghe) to find out why my
numerous request for a list of the Board of Directors
and the Bylaws have gone unanswered. Mr. Bloom
informed me that I had not requested the information
correctly. Since Mr. Bloom has forbidden me to
communicate with Dr. Jayasinghe or his family (please
see letter faxed on October 17th,
2006), I
thought I might ask Mr. Bloom for this
information, I even followed up with fax to Mr.
Bloom.
I just received a response from Mr. Bloom stating that he does not provide information for the Sri Lanka Foundation.
So who is on this Board of Directors? Why is it so important to keep it a secret? Why was it taken off the Sri Lanka Foundation website? Have the Board of Directors been informed of legal suites filled against Sri Lanka Foundation or suites filled on behalf of the Sri Lanka Foundation? Who makes these decision? WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW.
We all know it was very difficult for the Sri Lanka Foundation to find board members in the first place. We also know that there has been at least one resignation. So here is a list of Sri Lanka Foundation Board of Directors and Advisors. I apologize in advance if there have been any changes. Please feel free to inform me of any omissions or if anyone can confirm any resignations.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS (President, Walter Jayasinghe, Anuree De Silva, Jayalath De Silva, Shirin Egodage, Aeshea Jayasinghe, Aloma Ratnasoma, Prasanna Silva, Shirani Stanislaus, Keshini Wijegooneratne, Mohammad Virani, Executive Director, Palitha Pelpola)
ADVISORY BOARD (Raja De Silva, Raja Edirisuriya, Karen Hiteshi, Anura Jayatilake, Piyal Matarachchi, Ananda Niyarepola, Michael Perera, Jayantha Puswella, Jayam Rutnam, Gration Weerasinghe)

Independence Day Celebrations in Los Angeles

The 2007 Independence
Day Celebration of Sri Lanka was held on Sunday,
February 4th, 2007 at the Japanese American National
Museum. I am glad that the Consulate Office of Sri Lanka, Los
Angeles,
choose to involve as many community organizations
in the planning of this event. I hope this is a
trend that will continue. It also proved that
forward thinking and a willingness to break old
molds can produce wonderful results. The almost
all glass venue of the Japanese American National
Museum was packed with a record breaking crowd. It
is not only a proud day for all of us but more
importantly is an event that allows the Sri Lankan
American children to embrace the heritage of Sri
Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Patriots held a public talk and cultural show in the afternoon at the Veterans Memorial Complex in Culver City, California. There was a broad range of wonderful cultural acts that showcased the many talents of local Sri Lankan artists. Sapthabhumi orchestra's eloquent harmony and broad range of instruments was memorable.
Dr. Peter M. Leitner spoke on terrorism in Sri Lanka. It was an interesting speech that followed with a Q & A session. Personally I was glad that Dr. Leitner ended the speech on what is needed to bring peace in Sri Lanka. I hope that this what each and everyone carries back. A hope that we in a somewhat small way can do something to bring peace to our beautiful nation and it's even more beautiful people. He touched on the topic of all the pain, anger and fear of Sri Lankans who have directly been involved and spoke about having to overcome this in order to bring peace.
The first Patriot Awards were awarded to Fr. Flavian Wilathgamuwa, Walter Jaywardhana and the late Deeptha Leelarathna.
You can read articles by Walter Jaywardhana at Ministry of Defense website and at Go2Lanka.com or you can download them here.

I want to thank each
and everyone of you that have written with words of
support and encouragement and also to those who have
called. Please be assured that I will not publish any
emails unless you specifically state so. If you want
to publish anything it will probably be better to
wait till the site has a online comment section. I am
working on it.
You don't know how much your support means to me and everybody that has been affected by this.

Isn't it wonderful when
you create something or design something and somebody
else mimics it?
Should you be upset that someone else not only claims the concept/product and on top of everything makes money as well?
You say it happens everywhere! Well you will be amazed to see where it happens. Let me know of famous copied work.
Left my design, on the right from the Sri Lanka Foundation website. I AM FLATTERED.
